MEET JONI
For the past decade I have been supporting the inner lives of mothers.
I feel passionate about this work because I truly believe how we raise our children has a direct impact on the world.
This feels more important to me now than ever before.
For many, becoming a mother is a transformative experience, but not always an easy one. Motherhood is messy and flawed and deeply influenced by our own childhoods, limiting beliefs, fears and desires, our family and social culture. Raising children is like a mirror, reflecting back to us information about ourselves, both the strengths of who we are, and the limits.
What we do with that information is key.
One of the most powerful tools you have as a parent is your intuition and it’s already within you. We are taught from a young age to ignore or distrust this inner voice and in our confusion and struggle go outside of ourselves for the wisdom we seek. Modern motherhood with all its shiny messaging of how to do it better with quick fixes or in 10 easy steps, leaves a trail of doubt and insecurity, because authentic and lasting change is never fast or easy.
What I have learned is that problems will repeat or find new ways to express themselves unless you are willing to shine a light into the dark corners to explore the root causes of challenging behavior. In most cases, it’s not about fixing the child, but addressing our own reactions and responses to our children.
The groundwork of my practice is teaching moms how to look within rather than without. My super power is bridging practical, day-to-day parenting know how with the inner, emotional piece of modern motherhood.
In addition to working one-on-one with private clients, I hold workshops for parent groups, schools and corporate agencies on a variety of topics such as authentic cooperation and communication, intuition vs. fear, parental anger, social media, and more.
A little more about me…
My background in Sociology and Anthropology was the early seed to my work as a parent coach. I have always been interested in family systems and how culture – both our family culture and the broader culture around us – shapes our understanding of self and informs all of our relationships. Through this lens, I was drawn to learning about ritual, natural cycles, and archetypes and how these different practices and traditions help us navigate our place in the world, particularly as mothers.
In addition to my BA in Anthropology and Sociology, I hold a Master’s Degree in Photography. I studied Nonviolent Communication with Marshall Rosenberg, and participated in numerous workshops and programs on peaceful parenting, mindfulness, ritual and facilitation and most recently, IFS (Internal Family Systems). I received a Master Coaching Certification with Joanna Lindenbaum, founder of the Applied Depth Practitioner Institute.
I work one-on-one with private clients, as well as hold workshops for parents, parent groups, schools and corporate agencies on a variety of topics such as authentic cooperation and communication, the myth of perfection, parental anger, social media and more.
After living in New York for over 20 years, I recently moved to New Hampshire where I am happily living close to the sea and woods with my 2 children and my husband.
